My name is Ariel Maye I am an Educare DC Parent Ambassador, I appreciate the opportunity to share my concerns today regarding the DHS District Direct app. As a parent, my goal is to ensure my children receive the support and services they need, but I’ve encountered several issues with the app that have made this difficult.Â
Firstly, the app has closed cases that should remain open. This has caused unnecessary delays and confusion. My cases were abruptly closed without clear communication or warning. I had to spend additional time reaching out to find out why this happened, only to learn that the app was responsible for the closure, not any actions on my part. This should not happen, especially when the app is supposed to streamline communication.Â
Furthermore, there have been instances where other children were mistakenly added to my account, and someone attempted to use my address for unrelated purposes. This raises serious concerns about data accuracy and security. If the app cannot properly identify and manage information, it undermines the trust parents should have in it.Â
One of the most frustrating aspects is the lack of communication. It’s difficult to get a clear response when issues arise. Whether it’s trying to understand why a case was closed or navigating through the app, I often feel left in the dark. While the app provides a faster option than setting up in-person appointments, it is still far from user-friendly, especially for those who are not technologically savvy. The interface isn’t intuitive, and instructions are often unclear.Â
I acknowledge that the app is faster than the old system of making appointments and physically going to offices, but the reality is that there is still a lot of room for improvement. The app should prioritize communication, accuracy, and ease of use. As a parent, I simply need a reliable system that helps me manage my cases effectively without added stress and confusion.Â
I hope that DHS can take these issues seriously and work toward making District Direct a better tool for all parents and families in need of assistance. Thank you for listening to my concerns.
